Drummer and Audio Engineer, Will Derries, found his passion for music at the age of 11, while in first year at the Berwickshire High School in Duns. Having quickly found a liking for playing drum kit, Music teachers Harris Playfair and Cameron Mabon encouraged Will to push himself. Cementing drums as his first instrument, he went on to take National 5 Music a year early in 3rd Year. During his 4th year, Will got to know Scott Turnbull, multi-instrumentalist and Sound Engineer, who was in 6th year at the time. Scotts passion and talent encouraged Will to try and better himself as a musician, and to start getting into sound.
It wasn't until June 2015 that Will realised that sound, and specifically live sound, was what he wanted to pursue as a career. The Eureka moment occurred when he was running lighting for a school show, in absolute awe of the sound being produced by Scott, driving the sound desk.
Since this, Will has assisted with or run sound for various stage shows, a variety of bands as well as school shows. Previous work includes; Fatherson (Production Assistant), Post Ironic State (FOH/TM), Elephant Sessions (Production Assistant), The Coostie Folk (Engineer, Manager and Drummer), Nick Harper (FOH), Berwickshire High School Musical Theatre (FOH, Sound Designer, PM). More information on Wills previous work can be found here.
Will is DANTE certified and is also a member of the Professional Lighting and Sound Association (PLASA).
